A little about Chawton House:

Chawton House was named England's 'hidden gem' by VisitEngland. It is a Grade II Elizabethan manor house in the English County of Hampshire near Alton. It is preserved and run as an historic property and also houses the research library of The Centre for the Study of Early Women's Writing, 1600–1830, using the building's connection with the English novelist Jane Austen.

At the turn of the millennium it was purchased by a charitable trust, extensively restored, and re-opened as a research centre. The centre, which runs study programmes in association with the nearby University of Southampton, incorporates a significant library, a collection of over 9,000 books, and related manuscripts.

Chawton House is set in 275 acres (1.11 km2) of the Hampshire countryside, and is used for conferences, filming and more recently as a venue for weddings. The house is now open to visitors, as well as library readers, for tours and during public events. It is situated about 400 meters away from the cottage where Jane Austen lived for the last eight years of her life, which is now the Jane Austen's House Museum, a large 17th-century house in the centre of the village of Chawton, owned by the Jane Austen Memorial Trust since 1947 and preserved in her memory.

Note: The two houses, Chawton House and Jane Austen's House, are entirely separately run charities. Visit Wikipedia for more information.

Footnote:

If you are asking the question of whether it is fair or fayre, it comes down to a number of factors. In this post we have used the word fair, which Chawton House has chosen to promote their event. We will use fair from hereon, except where a venue is using fayre to promote their event, or where, as in the extract below, it is solely to cover a range of food and drink, which is unlikely to be the case, as most wedding fairs cater for a broad spectrum of wedding service providers.

“ If you're having a wedding open day and it's entirely about food, then fayre is correct because fayre actually refers to a range of food and drink. “ - Pink Wedding Days
