The birth of Sinclair Wedding Films

As an independent filmmaker I have been capturing content for almost a decade now. Learning along the way the subtle differences in using light and how one set of optics differs over another. Often I look back on my early work with a critical eye, and forget every journey has a learning curve, and different equipment produces differing results. It is knowing when to use the right medium that is a part of being a professional creative.

Sinclair Wedding Films was born officially on the 19th June 2022, when the domains were purchased and registered. However, the initial seed for wanting to capture weddings, elopements, and engagement films (videos) was born when I filmed Ella and Alex’s wedding at Gatton Park, Surrey during April 2017. The final decision was when my sister was looking for videographers for her wedding and was perplexed at the choices available to meet her vision. Having seen my parents wedding video (VHS Tape transferred to DVD) the desire to create cinematic memories became stronger. In early June I was fortunate enough to be invited to a wedding where I finally concluded I wanted to create cinematic content for couples. Giving a couple something to remember their special day resonated with me, and I realised that I could undertake this without impacting my role as a cinematographer or other filmmaking commitments and projects I have.

As I type this post, and try not to go off topic, I am working as Director of Photography on a short Horror Movie for the British Film Institute called ‘Shoelace’. This is very exciting, as it is a genre I like, is partially funded by the BFI and studio access provide by UCA, and is a great way to start life after graduating. I will eventually post the short film (or what I can) on my Cinematography website Spencer J Sinclair.

My experience in moving and still imagery covers a broad spectrum of mediums from digital to actual celluloid film. Each has its own challenges and produces different results. For the memories I will be capturing via Sinclair Wedding Films I will be using Netflix approved cameras.

So, I think it fair to say that the birth of Sinclair Wedding Films is the result of my passion for capturing light in the way I see it, for editing these moments together in a narrative storyline, and ensuring through professional colourising that the imagery reflects, as accurately as possible, the colour palette of the event. Above all, it should make anyone watching feel the warmth and love surrounding the key people in each production.

For those of you who know me, you will be well aware of my historic work, which can be seen on the Fresh Crew Studios website, and which is a passion project that I will be revisiting in the future. I mention this here due to the opening sequence on Ella and Alex’s wedding video on the ‘Films’ page.
